Silver Strand Urgent Care is conveniently located in the Imperial Beach Promenade Shopping Center (9th and Palm Avenue) near CVS. There is plenty of free parking in the shopping center lot. Parking is also available on 9th Ave. and behind our building on Calla Avenue.

Welcome to our community’s newest urgent care facility. Silver Strand Urgent Care is here to serve all of your sudden, same day, non-emergency medical needs. Oops, ouches, and ows happen when you least expect them. We treat acute injuries, on-the-job accidents, common ailments, respiratory illnesses, broken bones, burns, bites, Covid-19 concerns, pediatric problems – all the unexpected urgencies that can happen to any of us.

When you can’t get in to see your primary care physician or pediatrician right away and don’t need the complex care, expense or long wait of an emergency room visit, come to Silver Strand Urgent Care. We have a laboratory and x-ray suite on the premises. We also provide testing (including Covid-19 testing), physicals, screenings and other well-patient needs. We serve all members of our community – and your family, from the youngest to the oldest, and everyone in between. Next time someone crashes a skateboard, twists an ankle, spikes a fever, or just feels icky, come on in. We’ll help you feel better, faster.

Keeping You Safe
Your health and safety are our priority. We follow all CDC protocols, and we have separate areas for our ill and well patients. During the ongoing pandemic, we have extra cleaning procedures and safety precautions in place to keep everyone well. Due to the pandemic, we ask that only patients come into the waiting area and exam room unless an adult support person is medically necessary. Minor children must also be accompanied by one adult only, please.

Visits to SSUC are billed just the same as a visit to your primary care physician. Most often patients have only a co-pay due on date of service. We bill insurance for patients with PPOs after the visit. Patients are responsible for any remaining balance. Have an HMO? You’ll pay a co- pay or a pre- negotiated rate. If you don't see your insurance provider listed above, give us a call and we can confirm if we accept your provider.
MEET OUR CARE TEAM
Brian Tyson, M.D. heads our professional healthcare team of highly trained physician assistants, family nurse practitioners, and medical assistants, all credentialed and licensed by the State of California and dedicated to providing our patients with excellent care. Our medical staff also includes x-ray and laboratory technicians. Our care team is bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish.
Brian Tyson, M.D.
Brian Tyson, M.D. is Silver Strand Urgent Care’s Medical Director. He is a board-certified family practitioner and has more than a decade of emergency medicine experience. In addition to serving as Medical Director at All Valley Urgent Care in Brawley and El Centro, Dr. Tyson has worked as an Emergency Physician at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and as a Hospitalist at Desert Regional Medical Center. Previously, he was Program Medical Director for Cogent Healthcare and Inpatient Program Director at Beaver Medical Group.
Dr. Tyson holds an M.D. and a Masters in Health Science from the American University of the Caribbean and a B.S. in Emergency Medical Care from Loma Linda University. He is a fellow in the Society of Hospital Medicine.

When should I go to Silver Strand Urgent Care?
Come to SSUC if you have a sudden, non-life threatening medical issue and need same day care. If you can’t get a timely appointment with your primary care physician or pediatrician, come see us. We can help with minor injuries, broken bones, bruises, strains and sprains, common ailments, respiratory illness, colds, flu, stomach distress, sinus pain, bug or animal bites, COVID-19 concerns, pediatric problems, and other can’t wait medical issues that don’t require emergency care. We also provide a wide range of testing, vaccines, screenings, physicals and well-patient care.
When should I call 9-1-1 or go to the ER?
Call 9-1-1 immediately if you’re experiencing a life-threatening medical emergency. If you have severe bleeding, head injury, major trauma or suspect heart attack or stroke call 9-1-1 now! Do not drive yourself.
Go to the nearest hospital’s Emergency Department if you are experiencing chest pain, trouble breathing, weakness/numbness on one side, slurred speech, fainting, head or eye injury, serious burns, concussion/confusion, fever with rash, seizures, severe cuts or facial lacerations that could require sutures, severe flu or cold symptoms, or vaginal bleeding with pregnancy.

What are SSUC’s hours of operation?
Our clinical hours are from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday.
What can I expect during my visit?
You’ll be welcomed by our friendly front desk staff, assessed in a private room by a trained medical assistant, and treated by a member of our licensed and credentialed medical staff which includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and x-ray and lab technicians. You’ll receive top-level care in a prompt manner and provided with any prescriptions, tests, and follow-up information necessary to get you feeling better, faster.
What should I bring to my visit?
Please bring a government issued ID, your insurance card, co-pay, a list of current medications, vitamins, supplements and any over- the- counter drugs you take, and a list of any allergies you have.

What ages do you treat?
At SSUC we treat the entire family from babies to senior citizens and everyone in between. We are family and community focused.
Can I get a Covid-19 test?
Yes. We currently offer a rapid Covid- 19 test and can provide results in about 30 minutes, while you wait in your car.
Do you offer physicals and drug tests?
Yes. We offer a full range of well-patient care. We provide workers comp exams, annual, sports and pre-employment physicals, drug tests, screenings, COVID-19 testing and many other health and wellness services.
Who staffs Silver Strand Urgent Care?
You’ll be cared for by highly trained physician assistants, family nurse practitioners, medical assistants and medical doctors, all credentialed and licensed by the State of California. We also have x-ray and laboratory technicians on staff. Our care team is bilingual and fluent in English and Spanish.
Who can I talk to after hours?
We currently do not offer after-hour care. If you need immediate assistance, please contact your nearest Emergency Room or call 9-1-1.
Can I go to SSUC for routine tests?
Yes. We offer all the typical blood tests physicians normally order including pneumonia, tetanus and flu shots.
Does SSUC offer well check-ups and physicals?
Yes. We provide sports and annual physicals, workers comp exams and wellness checks.
Can I get x-rays at SSUC?
Yes. We have a full x-ray suite for your imaging needs.
Does SSUC offer laboratory services?
Yes. We have a laboratory onsite and perform all tests right here.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We accept most insurances including Tri Care. Please call us with your insurance information if you have questions.
Which payment options do you accept?
We accept cash, credit and debit cards.

At this time, we cannot accommodate anyone other than our patients in SSUC’s waiting area and exam rooms except one adult (18 or older) patient support person, if medically necessary. Please note that waiting areas are also at limited capacity and may require you to wait in your car or outside until notified to enter. For everyone’s health and safety, please have family members and companions wait in the car.

If you have been exposed to COVID-19 or are presenting with symptoms, please call us right away. Our staff will set up a scheduled time and instructions for your arrival.
Call us once you arrive and alert us to your parked location. Our staff will come to you and conduct testing and care from your vehicle.
COVID-19 results can be acquired in as little as 30 minutes. From there, our staff will provide care options and schedule follow-ups if needed.
